Teddy Bears - What Are They Made Of?

Teddy Bears - What Are They Made Of?

Teddies, irresistible, cuddly and universally loved. That's the outside, but what about the inner bear? What fabrics, stuffing and squeakers go into our favourite friends?

Fabric

Discs Fiber

Over the years bears have been made in approximately every material you can think of. The first-rate fabric, that was used for the earliest bears, is mohair (wool from Angora goats) which has a realistic texture and is very resistant to dirty. Over the years manufacturers experimented with other, cheaper, materials and in wartime there was even an cheaper fibre woven from nettles! artificial fabrics are the most widely used substitutes for mohair as they are washable and can be dyed in a rainbow of colours.

Paw Pads

Many of the earliest bears' pads were cut out of felt or sometimes suede. This was felt to be however, a rather expensive material for a simple child's toy. In the 1930s a cheap substitute called rexine was used. This was made from oil cloth but was prone to cracking. Natural leather and velveteen were also used. More recently pads have been made from plush, either incorporated within the limbs or with inserts of a different colour. It is usual today for washable synthetics to be used.

Stuffing

Wood wool was the earliest stuffing and prolonged in use for many years. From 1918 onwards kapok, a soft fibre made from the seed pods of the kapok tree became popular, whilst in World War 2, bears had cheaper stuffing, for example waste from cotton mills or cut up stockings. Today many stuffings are washable, for certain reasons and polyester wadding and plastic pellets are popular.

Features

Eyes were initially made from wooden shoe button eyes. Glass eyes were ready and the first ones were made from blown glass, imported from Germany. however these were expensive and it was found to be cheaper to naturally paint the colour onto the back of the glass. Eyes were originally fitted with a small metal hook, but after World War 2 security regulations led to the amelioration of today's plastic eyes, secured from the reverse with a washer.

Noses proved the most difficult feature to achieve satisfactorily as plastic and leather were too hard, so eventually hand-embroidered noses became the most generally found. These are a beneficial clue to a bear's builder as different companies favoured different shapes and ways of stitching. Today children's toys commonly have lock-in security noses in plastic, while collectors' bears are more likely to have the primary hand-sewn noses.

Mouths are traditionally hand-stitched, commonly with a singular line from the centre of the nose finishing in an upside down "V". Changing the shape of this "V" can wholly alter a bear's expression from a gorgeous smile to a more pensive or even cross-looking face.

Joints

Early bears could move their heads and limbs well as they had a card or metal disc inserted on either side of the joint joined by a pin and fastened off with a small metal washer. Plastic rods replaced metal pins in the 1940s and today cardboard joints are obsolete having long since been replaced by plastic, although hardboard joints are still used for some artist bears.

Squeakers and Growlers

Squeakers were tried in teddy bears, and an odd contraption comprising a reed in an oilcloth bag was also experimented with. however the tilt growler is universally agreed to yield the "real" teddy bear voice. These growlers consist of cardboard tubes with a small pair of bellows attached to a reed. When the bear is turned over a weight at one end opens the bellows and when it's stood upright again the air is released giving a slow, realistic growling noise. The same principle is used in today's teddy bears, some of whom can be seen at DevonBear Designs on a range of products including aprons [http://www.devonbeardesigns.com/prod6.asp?prod_id=3340&id=266&sub_cat=579&grpid=3340&msg=&offset=] and greetings cards [http://www.devonbeardesigns.com/prod6.asp?prod_id=3344&id=272&sub_cat=581&grpid=3344&msg=&offset=].

High Blood Pressure treatment straight through Chiropractic Care

High Blood Pressure treatment straight through Chiropractic Care

Many Americans suffer from high blood pressure (hypertension), which is one of the leading risk factors for a heart attack. Fortunately, most cases of high blood pressure (Hbp) are avoidable straight through natural methods. Your neighborhood chiropractor Dr. Jeffrey Roistacher can help you to operate your blood pressure without hazardous drugs and their side effects.

There are many distinct causes of Hbp, but it is leading to remember that in the vast majority of cases, hypertension is completely preventable. So, even if you currently have Hbp, you can operate it and bring it down to general levels straight through proper natural care.

Discs Fiber

A very common cause of Hbp is a subluxation of one of the upper thoracic vertebrae. This is because the spinal nerves that exit the spinal column at these levels operate the action of the heart. Feed back to the nervous principles controls both the rate and pressure of the heart. If any of these nerves are impinged by vertebral subluxations or disc protrusions, then the heart will not function properly and this in turn will work on blood pressure. straight through correct chiropractic adjustments to your spine your chiropractor can take off any nerve interference and restore your nervous principles and heart to a general state. The body has an highly sufficient self regulating mechanism to assert homeostasis, if the nerve flow is allowed to function properly.

Some of the other causes of Hbp include:

Dehydration, where the blood can really come to be thicker than general because there is less fluid in the blood. This causes an increase in viscosity so more pressure is required to pump the blood colse to the body. Ironically, curative doctors often prescribe diuretics as a rehabilitation for hypertension. In some cases this rehabilitation can make the blood pressure higher as it causes even thicker blood.

High stress levels, where the body's production of adrenaline is increased to deal with the stress. The body produces high levels of adrenaline to increase heart rate and blood pressure to supply the body with increased blood circulation to carry extra vigor and oxygen to the cells.

Side effects of drugs are a common cause of high blood pressure, as well of a host of other physical symptoms. So if your hypertension is caused by a drug that your physician prescribes, he will often prescribe other drug to counteract the high blood pressure caused by the first drug.

Most cases of hypertension can be treated straight through chiropractic care and other natural therapies, especially if caught early. Before you turn to drugs and their hazardous side effects, consult your neighborhood chiropractor:

Mountain Bikes - Off the Rack or practice Made?

Mountain Bikes - Off the Rack or practice Made?

If you're thinking of getting a custom-made mountain bike, there are some factors you have to take into consideration.

Frankly, the typical weekend biker doesn't legitimately need a custom-made bike. As long as you buy your bike at a bike store where they can get you fitted properly, you'll do just fine.

Discs Fiber

But for legitimately serious bikers to whom speed is all - the professionals and the dedicated amateurs, the customized bike is something to consider.

Custom- Built vs Customization The terminology of "customization" can be confusing. Population use the words interchangeably, when legitimately they are two distinct things.

A customized bike is one that takes an off -the-shelf frame, and puts on the seat you want, a stem of the accurate height, a crankset with pedals you can reach easily, etc.

A custom-built bike is one in which the frame itself is built exactly to you measurements.

Basically, when one talks about a customized bike - or rather a custom-built bike - one is talking about the frame. You send along your measurements to the builder - length of foot to knee, knee to pelvis, torso, farranging height and they develop the frame with those measurements in mind. They then put on all the rest of the stuff - the high-end tires, the brakes and shifters you require, the crank set, and you're good to go.

All that costs money.

An Easy Customization - the Paint Job There's other ways to customize mountain bikes, of course, though I haven't seen many Population do it. Why not give them a stylized paint job like you see on lowriders? Of course mountain bikes used for legitimately going down mountains (as opposed to those used for cross-country or even road riding) take a bit of a beating and can get scratched up, but for most bikers, a hand-painted mural on their bike can be quite attractive. Why let the lowriding crowd have all the fun? The only theorize why I haven't painted my own bike in orange and black tiger stripes is because I know I don't have the skill to pull it off - but if you've got any artistic talent at all, why not go for it?

Bike technology is enhancing all the time, as manufacturers strive to make the strongest frames out of the lightest of materials. So keep an eye on the recite sections of your favorite bicycle magazine, as it will keep you up to date on what is happening in the world of cycling.

How to fix Car Rust Holes

How to fix Car Rust Holes

Cars are prone to corrosion. Older unkempt vehicles tend to form more rusts than well maintained ones. And when these rusts are untreated, overtime they eat the metal and generate unsightly holes. Fortunately, there are easy ways that can be done to fix these holes. Unfortunately, the fix doesn't guarantee that it will last.

Nevertheless, repairs can still be done to fill up rust holes on your vehicle. There are numerous ways to do this. But the most cost-effective and practical way of repairing these rust holes is by using the fiberglass cloth kit. The steps are relatively easy to effect and carry out. All you just need are a good amount of elbow grease, of course the fiberglass cloth kit, electric grinder and drill, spreader, sandpaper and sanding discs.

Discs Fiber

Here are the 10 steps in repairing rust holes using the fiberglass cloth kit.

Step 1: take off all excess trim and loose debris from the corroded part of the vehicle. Cut the rusted metal but leave adequate to mouth the allembracing shape of the body of the car.

Step 2: Using an electric grinder with 24-grit disc, grind all traces of the rust including the primer and paint, just about four inches from the edge of the rust hole.

Step 3: With the use of 100-grit sanding block, sand the affected outside to get a clear and shiny surface. As for the edges of the rust hole, slightly tap them inwards using a ball-peen hammer.

Step 4: Get the release film from the fiberglass cloth kit and cut it about three inches larger than the sanded area. Lay the film over the rust hole. Mark this area with a pencil but avoid wrinkling the film.

Step 5: Cut two pieces of fiberglass matte to cover the rust hole. One piece of this matte should be about one inch smaller than the sanded area. The other piece should be one inch smaller than the size of the first matte.

Step 6: Get the cut release film and spread over it a layer of auto body fix jelly. Make sure that the film is facing outward. Then take the smaller fiberglass matte and place it over the release film with the jelly. Spread more fix jelly to the smaller fiberglass matte then place the larger cloth on it.

Step 7: Then place the whole fix material over the rust hole, production sure that the film is facing outward. With the use of a spreader, plane it out over the rust hole in an outward motion. effect the shape of the car body and make sure that you take off all the bubbles.

Step 8: Let the fix material cure overnight. And then the following day, take off the release film. Check if the fix material is fully set. Then sand the repaired area using an electric drill and sanding disc. Unblemished the fix and sanding using a block sander.

Step 9: If there are low spots, fill them with the filler material. Once the filler dries, file and plane it out with 80-grit sandpaper.

Step 10: Apply the topcoat and hardener to generate a plane discontinue to the repaired rust hole. plane the topcoat using 200-grit then 400-grit sanding block. This should be adequate to get ready the car body for masking, priming and painting.

selecting the Best Trout Fishing Tackle

selecting the Best Trout Fishing Tackle

Trout fishing Tackle is a field that needs talking about as there are a few considerations you have to take on board before you set off and buy your considerable accessories.

Firstly, trout fishing rods come all sorts of lengths and are made from many sorts of materials, carbon, and cane and glass fibre. Carbon is the one nearly all anglers go for as it is light and sturdy and does the job time and time again.

Discs Fiber

When it comes to selecting the size of the rod, you have to take into inventory if you are fishing in a river or a big lake.

If you are in a river or stream it would be smart using a rod in the middle of 7 and 9 foot in size, and if you were fishing in a lake a rod of more than 10 foot would be best.

If you are finding at reducing the cost down on purchasing distinct rods, just buy a rod that is around 9 foot 6 inches and that is a good all round rod to fish with.

Something to reconsider about with the long and short rods is that if you are using flies, a wet fly is best with a longer rod and dry fly is best with a smaller rod.

Though again if it is the price, the 9 foot 6 rod will be fine for your needs with both flies, but you would notice a divergence otherwise by using a long and small rod for each personel fly.

When it comes to picking your reel for trout fishing there are many unique types, all gift a distinct explication for bringing in your fish. Some of these reels have a disc drags, ball bearings or uncomplicated and basic spring and pawl click drag back.

Selecting your reel is down to the selection of how you want to play your fish. Some anglers like the sound of the click and drag back and the reel spinning out while playing the fish, where as others are more focused and just want a catch.

Again when selecting your reel just consult with your local tackle shop what you want out of your fishing feel and you will be given wide selection to choose from.

When it comes to using a trout fishing lines, numerous years ago anglers would have had one line to work with, but now with the popularity of trout fishing, many lines are brought in your tackle box.

You will commonly have long, short, distinct weighted lines, double tapered lines, neutral lines, weight forward lines, floating lines and even lines that sink at a slow, medium or fast rate.
